The San Bernardino Police Officers Association (SBPOA) proudly announces its endorsement of Assemblymember James C. Ramos, a figure emblematic of dedication, perseverance, and leadership. Ramos’s commitment to public safety and his unwavering support for law enforcement in the 40th District have rendered him an indispensable advocate for the community.
“Assemblyman James Ramos has consistently proven his dedication to keeping our neighborhoods safe from violent crime. His actions and initiatives have garnered the deep trust of the law enforcement community, making our endorsement a natural progression of our faith in his leadership.”
Ramos’s journey from living in a mobile home in one of San Bernardino County’s most impoverished areas to his current position is an inspiring tale of resilience and commitment to his community.
Ramos worked in various roles to support his family while pursuing education, including at fast-food establishments and as a janitor in the San Bernardino City Unified School District. After completing his education at San Gorgonio High School, he furthered his commitment to learning by earning degrees from Victor Valley College, California State University, San Bernardino, and the University of Redlands.
Ramos has been a trailblazer throughout his career, becoming the first Native American appointed to the State Board of Education and the first Indian to serve on the San Bernardino Community College Board of Trustees. The first Native American elected to the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors, where he later served as the first Native American chair. Additionally, Ramos’s service to his tribe, the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, as the chairman of the General Council showcases his dedication to his roots and community.
Demonstrating a rare aptitude for uniting voices from both sides of the political spectrum on contentious matters, he has garnered appointments to prestigious state boards from governors across party lines.
In his inaugural term in the Assembly, Ramos fervently championed mental health topics, notably addressing bullying and suicide prevention, especially as these issues gained prominence due to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, under Ramos’s leadership, the Select Committee on Youth Homelessness in San Bernardino County has made significant strides in addressing the alarming rise in youth homelessness, reflecting his commitment to addressing pressing community challenges head-on.
Ramos’s support for law enforcement and unwavering stance on public safety resonate strongly, especially when community security is paramount. His proactive approach to safety and the support of prominent figures like Congressman Pete Aguilar and San Bernardino County District Attorney Jason Anderson solidify his position as a torchbearer for a safer and more secure community. The SBPOA remains confident that with Ramos at the helm, public safety will always be at the forefront, ensuring our community’s resilient and thriving future.
